This forum is for invited participants with an interest building and flying a full size replica of the Bristol M1C Monoplane matching the original aircraft "Red Devil" now housed in the Captain Harry Butler Memorial Museum located in Minlaton, South Australia by the end of 2018 giving the project 5 years from inception.
Airworthiness, Safety and Compliance
As it is intended the replica will be a full size, flying and manned aircraft which is likely to be operated at public displays and by special dispensation over build up areas, it will be necessary to build to modern design rules for airworthiness and safety. Civil Aviation Regulations are quite explicit in their requirements and these will be detailed elsewhere in this blog.
Additionally, as some of the original components, most especially the LeRhône rotary aircraft engine will be almost impossible to obtain in useful condition or at reasonable cost, it will be necessary to make substitutes. While detractors will say this diminishes the value of the replica as a genuine piece, it will remain externally as true to the original design as possible and thereby help to preserve and perpetuate the history of the original "Red Devil" and Captain Harry Butler.
Design and regulatory requirements are detailed separately.
